On the news tonight, it was reported that Pat Robertson who was said to be the leader of the "Christian Right" and a good friend of President George Bush, publicly called for the assassination of the Venezuelan President. Donald Rumsfeld distanced himself from Robertson by saying that he was not a spokesman for the White House but simply a citizen, which as a group often make statements that do not represent policy nor the sentiments of the administration.
It looks like this is but one more stupid remark that will cause people to disdain those who profess to be Christians and further the belief that we are nothing more than a bunch of radical extremists. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes2.gif" alt="" />

Pilgrim, people ... disdain those who profess to be Christians and further the belief that we are nothing more than a bunch of radical extremists How true. Would that rather, as Christians, we be seen as truly radical extremists, sons of light, sons of the day, blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation among whom you shine as lights in the world, holy in all your all conduct, sojourners and pilgrims, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
In Christ, Paul S

You'd think on what he makes from that "show" (I won't say ministry) of his he could afford a nice cut of steak but instead he insists on eating those penny loafers of his. I guess he likes the flavor of toe jam.

You'd think on what he makes from that "show" (I won't say ministry) of his he could afford a nice cut of steak I live here in Chesapeake, Va. I drive by Regent all the time and unfortunately I even have to run into people who are teachers and students there. I have been VERY put off by anyone who is associated with that campus. It is very liberal and I have as yet to meet anyone who is in anyway orthodox from that place. I have also heard that Pat has a nice size estate somewhere around here, but I haven't seen it personally. But you would think as much money as he has, HE could hire a team to do the job if he wanted to. But I have a feeling that he loves his money too much. I'm sorry, but people in ministry don't empress me when they have mansions, private limos and planes. Dave.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Galatians 2:16

Al Mohler has a good short article on this: Pat Robertson's Words and Our ResponsibilityHe brought shame to the cause of Christ. This is the kind of outrageous statement that makes evangelism all the more difficult. Missing from the entire context is the Christian understanding that violence can never be blessed as a good, but may only be employed under circumstances that would justify the limited use of lethal force in order to prevent even greater violence. Our witness to the Gospel is inevitably and deeply harmed when a recognized Christian leader casually recommends the assassination of a world leader...He has brought embarrassment upon us all. Now, with so much at stake, Pat Robertson bears responsibility to retract, rethink, repent, and restate his position on this issue. Otherwise, what could have been a temporary lapse of judgment can become an enduring obstacle to the Gospel.
