Obama had his DOJ to disregard immigration laws that was on the books. The Sheriff continued abiding by the written law thus the DOJ brought charges against him for going against Obama's executive edicts on the matter. He was sentence to jail by a judge, and he did not receive a jury trial.

He is a political prisoner. Yes, we do have those in the USA.
